Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR)

MPEMR has two Divisions headed by two secretaries; Power Division is responsible for all policies and matters relating to electricity generation, transmission and distribution from conventional and non-conventional energy sources including hydro electricity. Besides, Power Cell acts as its “Think Tank” provides policy supports. Sustainable Renewable Development Authority (SREDA) is the nodal agency for supporting sustainable and renewable energy development.

BERC was established on March 13, 2003 through a legislative Act of the Government of Bangladesh. The commission has the mandate to regulate Electricity, Gas and Petroleum products for the whole of Bangladesh.

SREDA is the government authority set up to promote, facilitate and disseminate sustainable energy (SE), i.e. covering both the areas of Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency(EE) to ensure the energy security of the country.

The strategy for Denmark’s development cooperation “The Right to a Better Life”, creates the foundation for an effective Danish development cooperation which aims to combat poverty and promote human rights. Economic growth is central to the strategy, but growth should be green and promote social progress in order for it to contribute to improving the lives of poor people and their ability to create a better life for themselves. The 3e programme is financed by DANIDA.

USAID’s Catalyzing Clean Energy in Bangladesh (CCEB) supports the development of a low greenhouse gas economy and promotes clean energy, energy efficiency and energy conservation in Bangladesh. The project commenced in 2012.

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA)

BGMEA is one of the largest trade associations in the country representing the readymade garment industry, particularly the woven garments, knitwear and sweater sub-sectors with equal importance. BGMEA started with only 12 members in early 1980’s and presently has around 4300 member factories.

BKMEA was formed as a trade association to facilitate and promote knitwear business to cater to the demand generated from the changing apparel global value chain. Today it is an organization of about 2000 knitwear manufacturers and exporters that represent the largest export earning sector of the country.

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI)

DCCI is the largest business chamber in Bangladesh. Its membership consists of industrial conglomerates, manufacturers, importers, exporters and traders mostly of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The main objectives of DCCI are to promote private sector enterprises and businesses with advocacy, awareness and policy inputs to government.
